BELÉM, BRAZIL - Brazil’s Federal Police conducted an inspection on Thursday night (20) in the COP30 Blue Zone, which had been affected by a fire in Belém. According to a representative responsible for coordinating between the United Nations and the Armed Forces, the inspection aimed to enable the return of personal belongings left inside the area.

Brazilian authorities reported that the Blue Zone was restored and resumed operations at 8:40 p.m. on Thursday (20). After the issuance of the operating permit and the safety certificate by the Fire Department, the area was officially handed back to the UN.

The Blue Zone — the UN-restricted area at the COP — was evacuated after a fire broke out in one of the pavilions. Internal surveillance footage shows the exact moment the flames began.

Twenty-one people received assistance inside the Blue Zone. At least three of them were taken to the Metropolitan Hospital with symptoms of smoke inhalation.

In an official statement, the Pará state government and the Belém city administration said no one was injured in the incident.
