AMAZONAS, BRAZIL - The expedition carrying Amazonian leaders from Manaus to COP30 set sail on Tuesday night (4) bound for Belém, in the state of Pará. The boat, Banzeiro da Esperança — or “Wave of Hope” — symbolizes the movement and resilience of the forest peoples.

The voyage is part of the “COP30 Journey,” a mobilization traveling through the rivers of the Amazon with community leaders, social movement representatives, civil society organizations, and public institutions. The initiative seeks to design climate action plans grounded in the lived experiences of Amazonian communities.

The vessel has been specially adapted for the mission and carries around 230 people. Banzeiro da Esperança was prepared to host community leaders from across the state of Amazonas.

“More than just a boat, it represents a journey that began earlier this year and will carry the voices of these communities to COP30,” organizers said. Along the route, participants will engage in dialogue and collective planning through workshops and discussions on the climate crisis.

The proposals developed during the trip will be compiled into a final letter to be presented at COP30, scheduled to take place from November 10 to 21 in Belém.
