RIO BRANCO - ACRE, BRAZIL – A sloth was rescued by the Fire Department on Monday (17) after getting stuck in tree trunks and branches in the Acre River, which runs through the capital Rio Branco.
The animal was spotted by residents who were passing near the Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge, known as the Metal Bridge, in the central region of the city.
When they realized that the animal was stuck in the accumulation of branches and trunks that form in the river during floods, the residents called the Military Police Operations Center (Copom), which asked for support from the firefighters for the rescue.
The strong current made it difficult for the team to approach, requiring one of the firefighters to leave the boat to remove the animal safely.
The animal was rescued unharmed, just tired, according to the Fire Department.
After the rescue, the sloth was evaluated and returned to its natural habitat.
