AMAZONAS, BRAZIL — Aerial images recorded Wednesday night (23) in the district of Cacau Pirêra, in the municipality of Iranduba, in the Manaus metropolitan area, show a forested area consumed by flames. On Thursday, the Amazonas Military Fire Department brought the fire under control.

The agency suspects that the fire was deliberately set after an inspection of the affected area. Amazonas is on alert due to wildfires reported in several parts of the state.

The Amazon summer, the driest period of the year, has worsened the situation. In addition to the destruction of vegetation, smoke from the fires has spread across several municipalities and reached the state capital, Manaus.
