Illegal hunters living in the Calama district of Porto Velho have been fined R$76,000 for environmental offences. The suspects were identified after a video of dozens of dead pacas was posted on social media and soon caught the attention of the police. The recording shows the suspects removing the dead animals from inside a boat and dozens more dumped on the banks of the river. According to the Rondônia Environmental Police Battalion (BPA-RO), the scene outraged the population and several complaints were filed. Through investigations, all the suspects involved in the action were identified and tracked down. According to the BPA, the group will be brought to justice for the crime committed.
