According to the Secretary of the Environment, Mário Carmim, the flames reached an occupied area known as the Alemão community.
The site was a private area that, after being invaded, was subdivided and sold.
Now, a space next to the subdivision has also started to be occupied by improvised buildings.
"This is arson," said Mário Carmim.
"We are going to find out how this was done and the Civil Police will start investigating and the culprits will be punished", stated the secretary.
"Here the secretariat has guided and told everyone in the occupation that fire is prohibited", commented Carmim.
