Two vessels that transport oil by river were attacked by pirates on the Solimões River.
The crime took place near the municipality of Jutaí, in the interior of Amazonas, on Saturday morning (13).
Armed security guards were relieved during the action.
According to information, the pirates tried to board the first vessel, there was an exchange of fire and they gave up.
Nobody was injured.
The second vessel, which was traveling on another stretch of the river, did not have the same outcome.
The pirates managed to capture the security guards and crew, put them in a cabin and took the victims' equipment and belongings.
A security guard was attacked and was rescued by other crew members with head injuries.
The crew of the vessel that was robbed by pirates sent audio messages asking for help.
Both vessels came from Peru and were destined for Manaus.
According to investigations, the pirates were on three boats, accounting for 12 criminals.
All were armed with high-precision rifles.
In a statement, the Union of River Navigation Companies in the State of Amazonas (Sindarma) regretted what happened and reinforced that it continues to cooperate fully with public security bodies to prevent the actions of criminals.
Sindarma also demanded responses from the authorities to prevent further attacks.
