Two passengers were arrested by the Federal Police for transporting more than 500 canaries hidden in suitcases on Sunday (4) at Boa Vista International Airport.
The birds were inside cages hidden in checked luggage, in ill-treated conditions.
Some of the land canaries died.
The suspects will be charged with wildlife trafficking, mistreatment and qualified reception.
The seizure of birds of the canary species was the third in less than two months recorded by the Federal Police at the airport.
On June 30th, a passenger was caught with 400, and on the 8th of the same month, another was caught with 500.
Together, the seizure actions total 1,400 birds that would leave Roraima.
All birds were taken to the Wild Animal Sorting Center (Cetas) by the PF.
The suspects were arrested in the act at the PF Police Station for Repressing Crimes Against the Environment.
