The sinking of a dredge and a tugboat in the Altiparanã River, a tributary of the Solimões River, resulted in the death of three prospectors and left two people missing in the early hours of Sunday (18).
The accident occurred between the municipalities of Jutaí and Fonte Boa, in the interior of Amazonas.
According to the Jutaí Health Department, three male bodies were taken to the city's hospital on Sunday afternoon.
The victims were identified as Odacildo Soares Oliveira, 30 years old; Darcy Wanildo Braga de Souza, 31 years old; and Odair João Carvalho Mota, 47 years old.
The City of Jutaí reported that one of the survivors reported that the tugboat collided with a log around 5 am, causing a hole in the dredge and leading to the sinking of the vessels.
The three men found dead and the two missing people were reportedly sleeping on the dredge at the time of the sinking.
The search for the missing is being conducted by family members, friends, as well as the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU), Civil Defense, Municipal Guard and residents of Jutaí.
