The accident happened on Saturday (28), in a stretch of the Madeira River that runs through the Auxiliadora District, in Manicoré, in the interior of Amazonas.
This is not the first incident involving this type of vessel recorded in the region.
In Saturday's accident, according to witnesses, the cargo, which contained food, such as pasta, sugar and wheat, was left floating in the water.
On Sunday morning (29), the ferry crew released the rest of the cargo so that riverside residents could pick it up.
The incidents on the Madeira River have occurred amid the worst drought on the Madeira River, according to the Brazilian Geological Survey (SGB).
Due to the drought, nighttime navigation is prohibited on the stretch of the Madeira River between Porto Velho and Novo Aripuanã, in Amazonas.
