The Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources - IBAMA, with the support of the Amazonas Environmental Police, is carrying out Operation Ibirá, which aims to combat illegal deforestation.
The operation is taking place in the municipalities of Careiro da Várzea, Autazes, Manaquiri, Careiro Castanho, Beruri, Borba, Manicoré, Tapauá, Canutama, Humaitá and Lábrea (AM).
Since the beginning of September, more than 70 targets of illegal activity have been visited to date.
Thirty-seven infraction notices were registered, with the application of more than R$6.8 million in fines.
The operation also includes educational actions with guidance for residents of neighboring areas, focusing on avoiding the use of fire.
The operation will continue with new inspection actions, application of sanctions and reinforcement of guidelines.
