The second round of the 2024 Elections that elected the mayor of Manaus took place this Sunday (27) in the capital of Amazonas.
Candidate David Almeida of the 'Avante' party was reelected to the position for another 4 years.
His opponent, Captain Alberto Neto of the Liberal Party (PL), was running for mayor for the first time.
David Almeida (Avante) voted around 9 am at the Antônio Lucena Bittencourt State School, in the Morro da Liberdade neighborhood.
Accompanied by his granddaughter, the candidate showed optimism and made veiled criticisms of his opponent.
Captain Alberto Neto (PL) voted around 10 am at the Nossa Senhora Auxiliadora School, in the center of the capital.
Accompanied by his vice-presidential candidate, Professor Maria do Carmo (Avante), he harshly criticized his opponent.
In this election, the Federal Police recorded two more occurrences of electoral crimes during the second round of the municipal elections in Manaus, this Sunday (27).
In one of them, three aides to a councilman were detained with a sum of money on suspicion of vote buying.
In total, nine people were detained on suspicion of vote buying in the West and North zones of Manaus, according to the Federal Police.
The vote count began at 4 pm (Manaus time).
Candidate David Almeida was reelected mayor of the capital of Amazonas with 54.59% of the votes.
