MANAUS-AMAZONAS, BRAZIL - Amazonas reported a 177% increase in confirmed cases of Covid-19, which jumped from 39 to 97 between January 27 and February 24 of this year.
This is the most recent data from the epidemiological bulletin for respiratory viruses released by the Amazonas Health Surveillance Foundation - Dr. Rosemary Costa Pinto (FVS-RCP) this week.
The summary indicates that, in the period, five deaths from the disease were confirmed.
According to the FVS-RCP, in the first two months of 2025, coronavirus leads laboratory confirmations of respiratory viruses in the state:
. Coronavirus (63.4%);
. Rhinovirus (30.3%);
. Adenovirus (3.8%);
. Metapneumovirus (1.5%);
. Parainfluenza (0.3%).
According to the Foundation, the most affected age group is people aged 60 or over (28.5%); followed by children under 1 year old (25.1%); 1 to 4 years old (15.1%); 40 to 59 years old (10.1%); 5 to 9 years old (6.1%); 20 to 39 years old (11.7%); and 10 to 19 years old (3.4%).
According to the Ministry of Health, the expected vaccination coverage against the virus is 90%, but according to the agency, this number is below all doses available in the state.
As of the most recent update, this Thursday (27), the percentage of people vaccinated in Amazonas is:
. Two doses of vaccine - 83.02%
. Three doses of vaccine - 54.16%
. Four doses of vaccine - 13.94%
The Covid-19 vaccination is distributed free of charge throughout Amazonas, being an important measure to reduce transmission and prevent serious complications of the disease.
