AMAPÁ, BRAZIL - A bus traveling from Oiapoque, in northern Amapá, to the state capital Macapá veered off the road and overturned on a stretch of the BR-156 highway near the municipality of Tartarugalzinho in the early hours of Thursday (31).
According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the vehicle was carrying 31 passengers and a driver. No deaths were reported.
Emergency response teams from the Military Fire Department (CBM) in Porto Grande, a nearby town, were dispatched to assist the injured, PRF stated.
Images from the scene show the bus overturned on the roadside with passengers’ belongings scattered in the surrounding vegetation.
The route between Oiapoque and Macapá typically takes around 10 hours. Oiapoque, located in the far north of Amapá, is the only Brazilian municipality bordering France and sees a significant increase in tourist traffic during the holiday season.
