AMAPÁ-BRAZIL - A 3.5-meter (approximately 11.5-foot) alligator was captured by agents of the Environmental Battalion of the Amapá State Military Police in the Bailique district of Macapá.
The incident occurred on Monday (18) and was officially reported on Thursday (21).
The reptile was located in the Marinheiro River, near the communities of Vila Progresso and Macedônia, and was considered a threat to local residents due to its proximity to areas with high foot and boat traffic.
Authorities noted that the presence of children and fishermen increased the likelihood of dangerous encounters.
During the operation, officers took measures to ensure the safety of both the animal and those involved. The alligator’s eyes were covered to help calm it down, and it was securely tied in a way that preserved its physical integrity.
Following the capture, the animal was relocated to a remote area deemed safe for both the reptile and the community. The site is already home to other members of the species, which should support its reintegration into the natural habitat.
