AMAZONAS, BRAZIL — The Federal Police carried out an operation in the municipalities of Humaitá and Manicoré, in the interior of Amazonas state, on Monday morning (15).
The operation targeted dredges used in illegal mining in the region. The effort was supported by National Force officers to prevent unrest during the action.
The dredging vessels were destroyed using explosives. According to the Federal Police, the operation aims to dismantle illegal mining activities that cause environmental damage and pose risks to riverside communities.
Equipment and materials linked to illegal mining were seized in both municipalities. The operation also included the use of helicopters for aerial monitoring of the region.
