AMAZONAS, BRASIL - With just over a month remaining before the 2026 Parintins Folk Festival, the streets of the “Island of Magic” are being transformed into an open-air gallery. Murals inspired by stories from the Amazon are displayed on the walls of homes across the municipality in Brazil’s Amazonas state.
The initiative is part of a state government project aimed at supporting local artists. The colors and brushstrokes reflect personal experiences, family references and elements that help preserve Amazonian cultural identity while strengthening urban art in the city.
Inspired by Amazonian roots, the murals portray stories related to the region’s jute tradition, the lives and customs of riverside communities, the strength of Amazonian women, and Indigenous and archaeological knowledge.
The murals have also become additional attractions for residents and visitors, helping them reconnect with the roots that shaped Parintins’ cultural identity.
