MANAUS, BRAZIL – The first operation carried out by Amazonas state security forces took place on Monday (6) in eastern Manaus. According to authorities, 3.4 tons of drugs were seized, along with a small boat and a motorcycle used to transport the narcotics.
Investigators said the shipment originated in the tri-border region shared by Brazil, Colombia and Peru and was transported by boat to the capital of Amazonas state. The drugs were found in a flooded area, packed in multiple sacks.
In a second operation, conducted on Tuesday (7), a 22-year-old man was arrested and more than 1.5 tons of drugs were seized at a house in southern Manaus. In addition to the narcotics, officers found 60 ballistic vests bearing the logos of the Amazonas Civil Police and the National Secretariat of Public Security (Senasp), as well as ammunition and a vehicle.
According to police, the property was being used to store drugs. Inside, officers found bundles of narcotics stacked from floor to ceiling, along with 9 mm ammunition.
The suspect and all materials seized during both operations were taken to the Specialized Police Department for the Repression of Organized Crime (DRCO), which is investigating the cases.
