Riverside dwellers recorded on video thousands of dead fish in Piranha Lake, in the Rural Zone of Manacapuru, in the interior of Amazonas.
The lake, which covers areas of the Piranha Sustainable Development Reserve, has been severely affected by the drought.
The Reserve is part of the city of Manacapuru, located on the banks of the Solimões River, which recorded a level of 7 meters and 22 centimeters this Wednesday (11), according to the Civil Defense of the municipality.
This represents a drop of 4 meters and 92 centimeters compared to the same period last year.
According to residents, the water level in the lake has dropped in recent days, and high temperatures are contributing to the mortality of fish.
Many fish are seen struggling in the shallow waters near floating boats, due to the lack of space and low oxygenation of the water.
Another concern is the unpleasant odor of decomposing fish, which is becoming increasingly intense.
Riverside residents also express concern about access to drinking water.
Currently, some families are getting water through a system that captures and treats water from the lake.
Other residents are seeking help in the city's Urban Zone.
The drought in the Amazon rivers in 2024 has already affected more than 340,000 people, and all 62 municipalities in the state have declared a state of emergency.
