MACAPÁ-AMAPÁ, BRAZIL - Fishermen Elizeu Rocha, 20, and his father Elisandro Rocha, 47, shared on social media the phenomenon of the Pororoca on the island of Parazinho, in the Bailique archipelago, at the mouth of the Amazon River.
The video was recorded last Sunday (30) during a fishing trip.
Elisandro described that he could hear the sound of the wave approaching from afar. That was when he decided to see the phenomenon up close.
The pororoca was about 500 meters from our position, but we could hear its noise.
We were taking a very big risk in our small boat because the Pororoca is very strong.
The Pororoca is a natural phenomenon characterized by large and violent waves that are formed when sea water meets river water.
The waters of the Amazon stain the entire coast of Amapá.
It spreads up to 200 kilometers along the coast and, carried by the north current, reaches French Guiana.
