AMAZONAS, BRAZIL - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva inaugurated on Tuesday (9), in Manaus, the International Amazon Police Cooperation Center (CCPI), created to strengthen the fight against environmental crimes, drug, arms, and human trafficking. The facility received financing from the Amazon Fund and brings together federal and state security forces in a modern intelligence hub equipped with cutting-edge technology.

The ceremony was attended by Colombian President Gustavo Petro, Ecuador’s Vice President Maria José Pinto, and Brazilian ministers. Amazonas Governor Wilson Lima did not participate.

Lula stressed that the center represents a milestone in integration between Amazonian countries and states in the region, reinforcing national sovereignty. “We do not need foreign interventions or threats to our sovereignty. We are fully capable of being the protagonists of our own solutions. The key words are integrated action and cooperation,” he said.

He also highlighted the strategic role of the new structure in tackling organized crime. “The International Amazon Police Cooperation Center will be an environment for the daily exchange of experiences and sharing of intelligence. It will be a hub for investigations and joint operations supported by cutting-edge technology,” Lula stated.

Justice Minister Ricardo Lewandowski reinforced that transnational organized crime must be treated as a threat to sovereignty, requiring international cooperation. The CCPI, which is part of the Amazon Plan: Security and Sovereignty, will also receive support from multilateral organizations such as Interpol, Ameripol, and Europol.
