BELÉM, BRAZIL - Activists staged a demonstration on Tuesday morning (18) in the UN Conference’s Blue Zone in Belém. The protest calls on wealthier nations, which have driven global warming, to compensate poorer and less-developed countries through investments in climate action.
The main goal is to ensure these countries can build resilience to climate impacts, adapt, invest in energy transition and prepare for what lies ahead.
The Brazilian government is seeking to negotiate and advance, at the Conference in Belém, a proposal that could reach up to US$1.3 trillion per year through 2035 in climate financing from developed nations to less-developed governments.
However, the negotiations face resistance. Delegates are attempting to establish a roadmap to reach this level of funding, but sealing an agreement is expected to be difficult.
