Four people were injured after an explosion struck two boats in the municipality of Anori, in Brazil’s Amazonas state, on Thursday, authorities said. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear and are under investigation.
According to witnesses near the scene, the boat where the explosion occurred was being used to sell gasoline. The blast reportedly happened during a fuel transfer between the two vessels.
Authorities have not released information on how many people were aboard the boats at the time of the incident. The injured received initial medical treatment and were taken to a hospital in the neighboring town of Manacapuru.
Military police said one of the victims suffered burns over 90% of the body and was airlifted to Manaus, where the person was admitted to the 28 de Agosto Emergency Hospital.
Another victim remains in critical condition and is being monitored at the Manacapuru hospital, authorities said. The condition of the other injured victims has not been disclosed.
