A baby girl was born in a helicopter after her 42-year-old mother was rescued in the Abelha Community, in the rural area of Manaus.
The area is isolated by the historic drought of the rivers that affects the capital and the entire state of Amazonas.
Health professionals from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) and agents from the Amazonas Public Security Department (SSP-AM) provided care.
According to Dr. Larissa Câmara, who performed the procedure, upon arriving at the location the patient was already in advanced labor.
For this reason, the work had to be done inside the aircraft.
Also according to Larissa, there were no complications and the baby was born healthy and was breastfed shortly after.
The Integrated Department of Air Operations (Dioa) highlighted that the helicopter and the teams have been frequently called upon to provide assistance to isolated populations, who face difficulties in leaving their communities.
After the birth, mother and baby were taken to the DIOA headquarters in Manaus, and then sent to a maternity hospital in the capital by a SAMU ambulance.
