Vehicle traffic was resumed on the new bridge over the Curuçá River along the BR-319 highway this Monday (29), exactly three years and one day after the collapse of the previous structure.

The new bridge is expected to improve mobility for drivers on the highway, which serves as the only overland connection between the states of Roraima and Amazonas and the rest of Brazil.

The original bridge collapsed on September 28, 2022, plunging vehicles into the river. The incident resulted in five fatalities and more than ten injuries.

The new structure, located at kilometer 23 of the federal highway, spans 150 meters and includes two traffic lanes, shoulders, and a marked pedestrian walkway along the side.

The reopening occurred without a formal ceremony or the presence of public officials. The task was carried out by personnel from the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT).
