AMAZONAS, BRAZIL - A massive fire broke out in two apartments of a residential complex in the southern zone of Manaus late Friday morning (May 30), leaving eight people injured—one of them in serious condition.
According to the Amazonas Military Fire Department (CBMAM), the fire started in one unit and quickly spread to others within the complex.
While the exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control within a few hours.
The fire department reported that some residents were unable to exit through the main doors and instead made their way to the roof. Others were forced to jump from windows and rooftops to escape the flames.
Seven of the injured were taken to a nearby hospital, while the eighth victim—a child whose age has not been disclosed—was transported to an emergency care unit in Manaus’s southern district.
A forensic investigation will be conducted to determine the origin of the fire.
