BELÉM, BRAZIL - A group of demonstrators held a protest on Thursday morning (17) inside one of the COP30 pavilions, denouncing South Korea’s financing of fossil fuel exports in African countries. Environmental organizations accuse financial institutions and the South Korean government of continuing to support overseas fossil fuel projects, which they say undermines global efforts to combat climate change.
What was the purpose of the protest?
"We are here to stop the fossil fuel financing. South Korea is the second largest financier of fossil fuel, and still pouring the money to the LNG carrier project, LNG terminal project, and overseas LNG production project, including Gojang Beach LNG project." said one of the protesters
