RORAIMA, BRAZIL - Farmer Eunice Maria Alves arrived in the northern Brazilian state of Roraima in 2002 to work the land. But fate had other plans — she found her livelihood in producing and selling liqueurs and flavored cachaças (Brazilian sugarcane spirits).

Her venture has become so successful that Vila Campos Novos, where the beverages are crafted, has started attracting tourists visiting the rural region.

Eunice founded a small business called “Biroska Bakana”, where visitors can sample her liqueurs and cachaças.

“My life has improved a lot. Today, I practically live off this,” Eunice said.

One of her creations even reached Boston, Massachusetts. An American tourist who visited the village enjoyed the ginger liqueur so much that he took a bottle back home.

Now, Eunice plans to expand production, aiming to distribute her beverages throughout Brazil and abroad.

Her business has also had a positive impact on the local economy, as it supports nearby farmers who supply the fruits used in production — helping to strengthen family farming in the region.
