PARÁ, BRAZIL - Passengers aboard a ferry boat experienced a night of terror on Monday (16) near Vila do Conde, in Barcarena, northeastern Pará. The vessel drifted adrift and partially submerged after taking on water. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
According to passengers, the initial suspicion is that the vessel was overloaded. Footage shows people throwing bags of cement overboard.
Witnesses said the ferry began to sink partially, and passengers tried to stop the water from entering by using buckets.
The passengers were rescued by another vessel that happened to be passing through the area at the time of the incident.
The Brazilian Navy and other authorities have not yet issued a statement on the case.
