The fires are raging through the forest in the middle of the night.
The flames are burning part of the Amazon rainforest in the municipality of Lábrea, in southern Amazonas, approximately 850 kilometers from the state capital.
More than four hundred men are trying to contain the flames in the region.
A fire-fighting plan was drawn up in advance for this year.
Even so, the number of forest fires has exceeded all predictions.
Real-time satellite monitoring shows that the municipality of Apuí is in the most critical situation.
In August alone, the city has already recorded almost 1,500 fires.
"We began operating in June, a month earlier than previously planned.
Recent calculations show that in June and July there were just over 3,000 fires.
It turns out that in the first fifteen days of August alone, we have already surpassed the number of forest fires from the previous two months," said Colonel Reinaldo Menezes, Deputy Commander of the Fire Department.
"We have already fought more than 7,700 fires so far," concluded Colonel Reinaldo Menezes.
