RONDÔNIA, BRAZIL - A giant anteater was rescued after wandering into a home in the southern zone of Porto Velho, the capital of Rondônia state in northern Brazil, and hiding on the porch on the night of Wednesday (27).

Footage captured the moment the animal was safely secured by firefighters.

According to the resident of the home, she sought help from a neighbor, who came to the house with his father and found the anteater on the property.

The Fire Department was called to the scene and carried out the rescue. According to the firefighters, the animal had emerged from a nearby forested area and appeared disoriented, entering the home likely in search of a way back to its habitat.

The rescue was conducted safely, and the anteater was successfully returned to its natural environment.
