MANAUS, BRAZIL – Brazilian authorities seized about half a tonne of cocaine and two firearms in the municipality of Maués, in the interior of Amazonas state, on Tuesday (27), police said.
The drugs were hidden in a forested area in the rural zone near a clandestine airstrip used by aircraft delivering the shipment, according to investigators.
Police said the cargo entered Brazil aboard a small aircraft that departed from Bolivia on an illegal flight. No arrests were made.
The operation was carried out by the Amazonas Integrated Task Force to Combat Organized Crime (FICCO-AM), with support from police forces in Mato Grosso state and the Brazilian Air Force.
Authorities said the action was planned following intelligence sharing among security agencies. Ground teams and aircraft from the Brazilian Air Force provided support during the seizure.
