MANAUS, BRAZIL - Heavy rainfall that hit Manaus on Saturday (31) caused flooding and disruption on streets and avenues across different parts of the Amazonian capital, local authorities said. Videos circulating on social media showed roads submerged and traffic hampered for both vehicles and pedestrians.
City Hall said Manaus was placed on alert due to intense rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning. According to the municipal government, meteorologists from the city’s Civil Defense department are monitoring weather conditions and warned of the possibility of further rain showers.
Emergency response teams remain on standby to handle incidents.
