The Pacaás River in Rondônia has dried up and left at least 10 indigenous communities isolated in the municipality of Guajará-Mirim.
The river, which is the only means of access to these communities, has become unnavigable.
The extreme drought has directly affected the arrival of supplies and health care.
Because of the drought, the journey that used to take 7 days (round trip) by boat to the city of Guajará-Mirim (RO) now takes 18 days.
This is because for much of the journey they have to walk, dragging the boat.
Some communities are being assisted with the delivery of basic food baskets.
Others are awaiting the same process from the state government.
The severe drought is affecting most rivers in the northern region of Brazil.
