The municipality of Cantá, in Roraima, was visited by the Federal Superintendence of Agriculture with the aim of identifying the presence and possible threats of the insect to fruit and vegetable production in the region. Thirty-seven fruits are currently considered to be hosts for the fly. To avoid the risk of losing production, traps were set up to catch the insect. On 10 November this year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock declared a phytosanitary emergency due to the imminent risk of the carambola fly in the northern states of Brazil. According to the agency, in 2023 there was a peak of fifteen thousand insects caught in one month.
