TOCANTINS, BRAZIL - A jaguar was seen attempting to enter the main building of a farm in the municipality of Pium, in the central-west region of the Brazilian state of Tocantins. Footage recorded on-site shows the animal prowling around the rural property and pawing at the protective bars of a window.
The unusual encounter was documented on Monday (22nd) by farm workers. According to a statement from Agripecuária JAN, the jaguar appeared to be weakened, prompting the area to be cordoned off to ensure the safety of both staff and the animal.
A team from the Tocantins Nature Institute (Naturatins) was dispatched to safely capture the jaguar. However, according to the agency, the animal returned to the wild on its own, making capture or relocation unnecessary.
Naturatins stated it remains on alert, and should the jaguar return to the property, a team will be deployed to assess the situation. If needed, the animal will be relocated to ensure the safety of both wildlife and people.
