A cargo of more than 6 tonnes of lemons was seized for irregularities at the port of Parintins, in the interior of Amazonas, on Wednesday (3). According to the Agricultural and Forestry Defence Agency (Adaf), the shipment left Pará and was destined for Manaus, but had irregularities in the documentation required for transport. According to Adaf, this was the biggest seizure made by the agency this year. During the inspection, the agents found that the shipment did not have a Plant Transit Permit (PTV), a mandatory document for the interstate transit of plants, parts of plants or products of plant origin. This documentation guarantees phytosanitary safety for the commercialisation of products on the market. Amazonas is free of citrus canker and carambola fly, which are two pests that are present in Pará. The cargo was sent to the Parintins landfill for proper disposal, under the monitoring of Adaf agents. In 2024, Adaf has already carried out five operations in the city, which resulted in the seizure of seven tonnes of food.
