AMAZONAS, BRAZIL - Two painters were rescued by the Amazonas Military Fire Department (CBMAM) on Monday (29) after suffering solvent intoxication while painting a 20-meter-high water tower in a neighborhood in Manaus' West Zone.
Specialized high-angle rescue teams used rope access techniques involving force multiplication and counterweight systems to hoist the victims from the structure. Oxygen cylinders were also employed to enter the confined space, which had low air concentration.
The workers were found unconscious but regained consciousness shortly after being rescued. The operation involved eight firefighters, three fire department vehicles, a team of paramedics, and an ambulance.
The victims received on-site pre-hospital care and were transported to local medical facilities.
