A video circulating on social media shows the moment a man rescues a dolphin that was stranded on the banks of the Madeira River.
The incident took place in a community in the municipality of Humaitá, in the interior of Amazonas.
The severe drought that is affecting the rivers of the Amazon is putting the lives of freshwater mammals in the region at risk.
In the images, it is possible to see the man carrying the animal to another point on the river and returning it to the water.
In 2023, more than 170 dolphins died during the historic drought that occurred in the state.
According to the NGO WWF-Brazil, the deaths were recorded due to the drought in the state's rivers and high temperatures.
For this year, the drought in Amazonas is expected to intensify, authorities estimate.
