Less than two weeks before the Amazon enters the dry period, the level of the tributary Negro River that bathes Manaus, the capital of Amazonas, has already dropped by more than 1 meter compared to the same period last year.
In the cities of Benjamin Constant and Tabatinga in the extreme west of the state, sand banks in the bed of the Solimões River are already visible.
The industry, which suffered billion-dollar losses in 2023, will have a special scheme for the distribution of inputs and orders.
The city's main port terminal receives four ships per week.
During the dry period, if navigation of large vessels becomes impossible, a river port will be set up in the city of Itacoatiara, 270km from Manaus.
There ferries must receive the containers and bring them to the capital.
But the biggest concern now is with the riverside population.
Because it was the one who suffered most from isolation last year.
Civil Defense has already started distributing basic food baskets and advised riverside residents to stock up on drinking water.
