An anaconda was found on Monday (8) near a market in Santana, a municipality that borders the capital Macapá, in the state of Amapá. The animal frightened people who were near the site and drew the attention of those passing by. The Military Fire Brigade (CBM) was called and rescued the snake, which was approximately 3 metres long. The market is located near a wooded area in the region. According to the Military Fire Brigade, during the rainy season it is common for venomous animals to appear in urban areas. As snakes are cold-blooded animals, they look for warm, dry places to feed. It's very common at this time of year for them to be found in people's homes, such as in ceilings, bedrooms or anywhere that has the right environment for them to survive. The fire brigade also warns people to call the brigade or the environmental police in such cases. If the animal is in a healthy condition, the firefighters will find an area favourable to its survival and release it. If not, they are taken to rehabilitation centres so that they can return to their habitat.
