BELÉM, BRAZIL - The Blue Zone — the United Nations’ restricted area at the COP — was evacuated during a fire in one of the pavilions on Thursday (20) in Belém. Security camera footage shows the exact moment the flames ignited behind the East African Community pavilion, where a panel was underway.

In an official statement, the event’s organizers reported that 21 people received medical assistance inside the Blue Zone after inhaling smoke. At least three were taken to the Metropolitan Hospital with symptoms of smoke inhalation.

In an official position, the Pará state government and the Belém city administration stated that no one was injured in the incident. According to authorities, the fire was brought under control, and efforts then shifted to ventilating the smoke that had accumulated inside the buildings.

The Blue Zone was reopened and resumed operations at 8:40 p.m. on Thursday (20).
