An electrical failure would have caused the merchant ship Mercosul Itajaí to run aground, near Pracuúbinhas Island, approximately 48 kilometers from the municipality of Santana.
The information was released by the Navy, which opened an investigation to investigate the case.
After the breakdown, it was necessary to carry out an emergency anchoring maneuver, which caused the partial grounding.
The ship was removed from the site with the help of a tug and is anchored in Fazendinha, rural area of Macapá.
The vessel left Manuas (AM) and was heading to Pernambuco when it had the problem and got stuck in a channel close to the mouth of the Amazon River.
The Navy also reported that the area where the grounding occurred is a pilotage area, where ships carry out maneuvers.
No signs of pollution were found in the region after the stranding.
Also according to the note, the Amapá Port Authority highlighted a team to carry out inspections on the ship and collect more information for the naval investigation.
Only after completing the safety check will the vessel be released to continue navigation.
