Four people died after a traffic accident on Friday morning (20) on AM-010, a highway that connects Manaus to the city of Itacoatiara, in the Metropolitan Region.
A semi-trailer collided with a bus from the Expresso Transamazônia company.
According to information from the Amazonas Government, 18 people were taken to the municipal hospital in Rio Preto da Eve, a city near where the accident occurred, and five of them were transferred to Manaus.
Two have already been discharged and three others remain hospitalized in the capital.
Among the dead are the bus driver, identified as Jair Nascimento dos Santos, Yasmin Viana Siqueira, 10 years old, Emilio Monteiro Araújo, 69 years old, and Manoel Otávio Vaz de Almeida, 65 years old.
The driver of the two-wheel drive truck responsible for the collision had his arrest upheld after a custody hearing this Sunday (22).
Leandro Augusto Lopes, 41, was arrested immediately after the accident.
The driver told the police that the collision happened during heavy rain.
Lopes also stated that it was the bus that invaded the other lane and that he tried to swerve the vehicle, but it was not possible to avoid the collision.
The expert report, however, differs from the version told by the driver and indicated that he was traveling at 100 km/h at the time of the accident.
The bus had left the city of Itapiranga, in the interior of the state, bound for Manaus, and the truck was traveling in the other lane.
The Public Prosecutor's Office and the police are investigating the causes of the accident.
