BELÉM, BRAZIL - The “Charter of the Alliance of the Peoples Who Guard the Amazon” was delivered to COP30 President-Designate André Corrêa do Lago on Tuesday (11).
The document was drafted during the “Banzeiro da Esperança” expedition, which brought together Indigenous, Quilombola, riverside, and other traditional community leaders on a river journey from Manaus (AM) to Belém (PA).
Throughout the expedition, participants discussed priorities and developed proposals to strengthen the Amazon’s role in global efforts to address the climate crisis.
During the meeting, André Corrêa do Lago said that receiving a document prepared directly by those who live in the forest embodies the very essence of holding COP30 in the Amazon.
