Criminals invaded the Manauara Shopping Mall, in the South-Central Zone of Manaus, and fired gunshots on the morning of this Saturday (14).
According to the police, a shopping mall employee was used as a human shield and released after a few minutes.
A suspect was arrested and there were no injuries.
The action was reportedly part of a robbery at a jewelry store.
One of the shots hit the store's facade.
The police did not provide details about the crime's dynamics, nor what motivated the shooting.
The shopping center remains closed with no scheduled reopening date.
According to customers, the shooting started around 11:10 am and, shortly after, the stores closed their doors with customers still inside.
The police reported that the criminal action involved the participation of at least three people.
The arrested suspect, identified as Clenilton Lima, 34, was found trying to hide in an area of native vegetation in the mall's food court.
Four watches that had allegedly been stolen from a store were found with him.
The other criminals managed to escape in a white Gol model car.
The police are still investigating the case.
The mall reopened in the afternoon.
