A giant anteater was spotted walking near a park in the urban area of Porto Velho on Thursday afternoon (30).
The driver who was passing by the area recorded the moment the animal crossed the street.
Vitor Dorigheto said he was driving along Avenida Lauro Sodré when he saw the anteater coming out of the vegetation towards the road.
As soon as he noticed the situation, he slowed down the vehicle and began filming the animal.
According to biologist Flávio Terassini, the giant anteater caught on camera is an adult and had already been seen months ago in the same region.
Because its natural habitat was affected by deforestation, the animal ended up migrating to the urban area of the capital.
Flávio reveals that the species is vulnerable to extinction and that in recent times, environmental impacts on their habitat have caused these animals to move closer to large cities in search of food.
