PORTO VELHO, BRAZIL — Brazil’s Federal Police destroyed a bridge used by illegal miners to access the Roosevelt Indigenous Lands and Aripuanã Park, in Rondônia state, during an operation carried out on Thursday (9). The action aimed to curb illegal mining activities within protected areas.

Several pieces of equipment used in the illegal operation were seized, including front-end loaders, engines, generators, camps, fuel, mobile phones and satellite communication devices.

In addition to the Federal Police, the operation involved Brazil’s environmental agency Ibama, the National Public Security Force and the Amazon International Police Cooperation Center (CCPI-Amazon).
