AMAPÁ, BRAZIL - An Amazon macaw (blue-and-yellow macaw), that was being kept in captivity was rescued during an operation by the Federal Police (PF) in partnership with the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama). The action took place in the city of Macapá, the capital of Amapá.
The animal had its wings cut, making it unable to fly, and was kept inside a cage. It was taken to the Wild Animal Screening Center (CETAS), where it will undergo evaluation and appropriate care until it can be transferred to a suitable destination.
The bird's owner did not have the required authorization from environmental agencies to keep the animal in his residence. In light of this, he was taken to the Federal Police headquarters in Amapá, where a Term of Occurrence (TCO) was filed. The individual was questioned and released, agreeing to appear in court when requested.
