13 days ago, a large fire hit the Guajará-Mirim State Park, a conservation unit in Rondônia. According to the National Center for the Prevention and Combat of Forest Fires (Prevfogo), the flames have already affected a large part of the Park.
According to Prevfogo, there are four fire fronts in the Park. However, firefighters work in only two of them, as they are unable to reach the fire due to a lack of aircraft.
The brigade members only operate by land.
Teams from the State Secretariat for Environmental Development (Sedam), the Environmental Police Battalion and the Military Police also moved personnel and ground resources to combat the flames.
Sedam reported that a combat base has already moved to the Park to begin fighting the flames.
According to the ministry, the fire is "apparently criminal", it started on the side of the road and spread into the forest.
